The Asian continental open and women’s championship 2019 has begun in Xingtai, China. It is a nine rounds Swiss event that will determine five qualifiers from the open section for the 2019 World Cup, while the winner of the women’s event qualifies for the 2020 Women’s World Cup.

This is probably the strongest open tournament in Asia as each country sent their best players for this event with average FIDE rating of 2455 in Open Group and 2214 in Women Group.

The MMU Cyber Chess Club president, who is our national chess player as well, Tan Li Ting, is now playing in Women Group on behalf of Malaysia. Let’s wish the best of lucks to her!
